Baby Outdoor Activities
I was so excited when it got warm out and Peanut and I could explore outside together! He was about 9 months when spring came and had just learned to crawl! I was not quite ready to have him crawling all over the grass and in the mud yet.
So I thought of some fun, safe activities for us to do outside! These activities can be adapted for any baby stage. They are especially good for 6-9 months when babies can sit up, but not walk around safely yet.
Outdoor Activities
- swing
- explore in ride on car
- go around yard and feel different types of trees & bushes
- feel flowers
- touch grass
- ride on different textures (side walk, grass, driveway, stones)
- read books together
- sit on towel to play or read together
- when Peanut could crawl I started putting him in an inflatable duck (pictured above) to play so he wouldn’t crawl away
- dance and sing to music
- play in baby pool (with or without water)
- bowls of water to splash in
- roll a ball around
- blow bubbles around baby
- go for a walk in stroller or ride on car
- hold baby on your lap so baby can feel grass on toes
- water plants in garden – read more here
- smell flowers or vegetables (rub your fingers on plant and put your hand near baby’s nose)
Peanut and I have the most fun just walking around the back yard and feeling different leaves. I always make sure to clean his hands after so he isn’t putting dirt or pollen in his mouth or nose.
Enjoy the beautiful fresh air with your little one!
