Levels of Text Feature Discussion Questions
Of course, it is important to get your students engaged and talking during your text feature lesson. Use the nonfiction text features freebie discussion questions to work your way through these levels and develop a deeper understanding for your students.
Identify
The goal of these questions are to define the text feature and it’s purpose.
Example: What text feature shows page number of the chapters included?

Interpret
The goal is to see how the text feature enhances and delivers information in the text.
Example: Which heading shows the paragraph will be about food that birds eat?
Compare
The goal is to notice the similarities and differences to other text features used in the text and what information they provide.
Example: What information does the caption tell us that we did not know from the picture?
What is the difference between the information we learn from the table of contents and index?
Analyze
The goal is to determine the author’s purpose for using the text feature and how it is the best way to deliver that specific information.
Example: Does the text or the graph most effectively tell us the fastest animal in the jungle?
